Michael Pollan, speaks my language!

Some women have heart throbs like Brad Pitt, Billy Ray Cyrus (sp?) and Richard Gear (something like that . . ) but men like Marc Bittman and Michael Pollan really speak to me -- and my appetite,

Fancy Soybean Salad

This salad has been a "vegetarian" hit at family parties lately. It's really just a salad that's made with only plants! Anyone can eat it!

2 cups of cooked rice.
Can be any type of rice, or barley, bulgar wheat etc. Mary-Ellen, who invented this recipe uses the Trader Joe's Brown Rice Medley. It's worth noting the blend combines brown rice, black barley, and daikon radish seeds. Even on its own, delicious!

1 pkg/ approx 2 cups of edamame (soybeans)
1 cup raisins
1 cup alomds, roughly chopped or slivers
2 scallions 1/4 inch slices
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1 tbs of sesame oil
1-2 tbs honey
salt and pepper possible sugar to taste.

Cook and cool the rice, toss with raisins, almonds, scallions and soybeans.
Whisk the oils and rice wine vinegar, honey. drizzle over salad mixture and toss.
Season to taste.

Glamorous Peasant Lunch

Today's sunny day demanded lunch at the "French bistro" table on the deck.

Here's the recipe,
4 flour tortillas warmed in a pan
chopped raw spinach leaves
grated Swiss (or any other cheese)
tahini

Layer one tortilla in the pan with a generous heaping of spinach and cheese,
follow with the second tortilla, press down on the sandwich to melt the cheese and wilt the spinach.
Flip and repeat. You may want a dab of oil in the pan beforehand.
Cut crosswise to make four pieces. Drizzle with tahini.

Cooks on Film!

Film scenes and narratives built around food always stir my appetite. When I thought to compile meal-centric cinematics I discovered something even better, a cook book with recipes from film(s)! Big Night, Goodfellas, Gosford Park, and Tortilla Soup are just a few titles.
The title, Cooking with the Movies, Meals on Reels, by Anthony F. Chiffolo.

New to me, food film has evolved into a genre, These books provide some interpretation,
  1. Reel Cuisine
  2. Food in the Movies
  3. Food Film Culture
